Windows 8.1 update 1 all changes and new features

9:06 AM
The latest update for Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system has made its way online more than a month before its intended launch date.

The update itself includes plenty of improvements, including a new title bar for Windows 8 apps that lets you open, close, and arrange apps with your mouse. The change seems like it was done to make things easier to navigate while using the desktop experience.

The update has added a new title bar for Microsoft’s Windows 8-style apps, which allows users to close, minimize, and snap apps side-by-side with a mouse. The bar is located at the top of all Metro apps.
Similar changes have been made to the Start Screen, where right clicking on Live Tiles now opens a menu that provides users with a number of options, to interact with the tiles, including resize, unpin, and more, the magazine reports.
Microsoft is also providing users with an easier way to access search and shut down their systems by bringing a search button and a shutdown options directly to the Start screen.

The biggest changes with Update 1 involves improving the modern UI experience for traditional point, click, and type PC users.

Right-click mania
Microsoft wants to make it easier for point-and-click devices to navigate Metro apps.

Right-click on any modern UI app in the Start screen, and a desktop-style context menu appears with options to unpin the app from Start, uninstall, resize the tile, and turn off the live tile.

Pinning a modern UI app to the taskbar lets you hover over it to preview the app just like a normal desktop app.

The Mail app in Update 1 sure has a lot of icons.

Microsoft also tweaked the interface of the Mail app, as you can see in the screenshot above.

Quick access to the Control Panel.

Finally, the PC Settings modern UI app has a link to open the Control Panel.

The leaked Windows 8.1 build was done January 14,That means this version of the update might not be entirely finished, with Microsoft still planning to add further UI and feature changes ahead of its official launch date.
